Prey
Sometimes silence is a signal that no one will hear you scream…
A small group of Icelanders have set out into the frozen wilderness. What is their goal? And why did they leave their clothes behind in a remote cabin? During the search for the missing expedition, rescue worker Jóhanna confronts her own traumas and disturbing discoveries beneath the layers of snow. And there's no peace at home either, thanks to the strange behaviour of her neighbour's dog. Something is also unsettling the cat keeping Hjörvar company during his lonely shift at a radar station in the middle of nowhere. And it's not just the strange phone calls that got on his predecessor's nerves before he lost his life in a tragic accident. It's as if something malevolent is circling, watching them... The heroes of this terrifying thriller from the queen of Icelandic crime fiction never stop sweating with fear – and doubting their own sanity – even in the grip of an icy hell.
An inhospitable landscape, frost, isolation and paranoia play pivotal roles in this mystery story, where Nordic noir meets psychological horror.
Reviews:
The final chapter will make your jaw drop in amazement at how brilliantly the author had everything planned. How she managed to find answers to her version of the mystery that are perhaps even more chilling than you expected.
- Centrum detektivky
It is a haunting and atmospheric story in which the characters battle with psychological trauma as well as hostile natural conditions.
