The monograph summarizes the latest knowledge on systemic treatment of cancer, especially on methods of targeted ("biological") therapy. The authors explain the mechanisms of action of targeted therapeutics, describe the signaling pathways leading to malignant transformation of the cell and provide new insights into treatment strategies in the context of conventional chemotherapy. Special attention is paid to the possibilities of influencing the tumor microenvironment (ecosystem), such as e.g. affecting angiogenesis and metastasis.
