Phenomenal horn player Radek Baborák presents an album of compositions by Argentinian composer Ástor Piazzolla, in arrangements tailor-made for his eleven-member ensemble of outstanding domestic and international musicians.
Although Piazzolla's music, which for listeners worldwide is synonymous with 'tango nuevo', does not include parts for the French horn, Radek Baborák continues his pioneering journey as an arranger and interpreter of Piazzolla's work in an unconventional line-up.
The role of the bandoneon, the traditional sound carrier of Argentinian tango, is taken over by the French horn, bass clarinet, violin, and piano. Baborák thus succeeds in achieving his desired aim: not just to be another of the 'revival bands' of Piazzolla's legendary quintet, but to let the compositions themselves and the masterful inventiveness of Piazzolla shine through. Piazzolla was able to achieve great expression, exaltation, and passion in contrast with melancholy and humility within a small space.
All this remains in his music as performed by the ensemble named Radek Baborák Orquestrina, elevated to a new sonic level through perfect interplay and energetic interpretation.
