Some of the recorded tracks come from Paul Simon's "Songbook" album, which was previously only released in the UK. In his liner notes for the 1966 album Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme, music critic Ralph J. Gleason wrote: "The songs in this album are songs for all time". Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel released their third album once again with producer Bob Johnston, known for his perfectionism, who had their precise arrangements captured by sound engineer Roy Halee using an eight-track tape recorder.
