Frank Sinatra was the most famous singer of the 1940s and 1950s, often described as the first true pop star. His career spanned 60 years, during which he won countless awards, released dozens of albums, and starred in several films. He was friends with top celebrities, presidents, and allegedly even mobsters.
Frank Sinatra
Sinatra was born in Hoboken, New Jersey, in 1915. In the 1930s, his ambitious mother secured him his first singing gig. The young Frank joined local group The Three Flashes, enjoying early success before soon leaving to go solo. In 1939, he recorded his first solo demo, Our Love, followed immediately by his first professional recording, From the Bottom of My Heart, which is now a highly sought-after collector's item. Later that year, he joined Tommy Dorsey's band, setting him on the path to stardom.
By the 1940s, Sinatra had become a superstar. As a singer, he had a massive appeal to teenagers, which was unusual for the era, and in 1941, he made his film debut in Las Vegas Nights.
Frank Sinatra
At the start of the 1950s, his career seemed to stall, but winning an Oscar for his role in the highly acclaimed film From Here to Eternity gave him a second lease of life. He went on to release successful albums such as In the Wee Small Hours, Frank Sinatra Sings for Only the Lonely, Swing Easy!, and Songs for Swingin' Lovers!, which features the legendary track I've Got You Under My Skin.
According to FBI files, "Frankie Boy" had ties to the mafia at the time. Many other allegations (that he was a communist or that he cheated to get out of the military) turned out to be fabrication. On the other hand, Sinatra was no angel, and his file also documents associations with prostitutes and criminals.
My Way.
The 1960s saw the birth of a series of notorious hits, such as Strangers in the Night and Something Stupid. Then, in 1970, came the famous My Way, a song that became synonymous with Sinatra.
However, with the rise of rock music, interest in him declined sharply. A depressed Sinatra felt he no longer belonged in this world and decided to retire. Three years later, he changed his mind and released another album. In 1980, he released Trilogy: Past Present Future, which features the famous melody Theme from New York, New York.

Sinatra also dipped his toes into the disco era when he released the very modern L. A. is My Lady with Quincy Jones, but he never returned to the top.
He continued to tour throughout the 1990s and received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. Unfortunately, the presentation ended in embarrassment when the aging singer talked for too long and was cut off by the music after a few minutes. He made his last television appearance in 1995 and died three years later.
