Skandar and his friends are about to begin their fourth year of training at the Nest, but a terrible curse strikes the unicorns and could change everything. The island is ruled by a commodore determined to eradicate the spirit element once and for all, Skandar's sister Kenna thinks of nothing but revenge, and Skandar is therefore nowhere safe.
The number of unicorns affected by the curse is growing and the four friends have no time to waste. They must literally race for their lives, not knowing if they can stop the curse before it takes the island for good.
For readers aged ten and up.

The story of bloodthirsty unicorns that can tear you apart if they don't like you is not exactly the kind of fairy tale you'd read before bed. But that makes it all the more exciting for teenage readers. Who wouldn't want to have their own unicorn, learn to fly and cast spells in a joust?

The main character Skandar is a good guy in every way and it's easy to experience the story along with him. His friends are also interesting and bring their own problems to the story that he has to deal with. And, of course, there are contradictory and tricky characters whose motives slowly emerge in the later books.
