Slayer: Christ Illusion/2013 edition - CD

Christ Illusion is the ninth studio album by American thrash metal band Slayer, released on 8 September 2006 under the American Recordings label.

It features 11 finely crafted songs, with which the musicians dispelled any notions of creative burnout. The fourth track on this album, Eyes of the Insane, won the Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance in 2006. Other highlights include the opening track, Flesh Storm, which features a great guitar riff (as indeed does the entire album), and the second single, Cult. The latter repeatedly features the famous number of the beast, 666, which sets the tone for the entire record.

The album artwork is also striking, depicting a figure with a crown of thorns and an image of Jesus of Nazareth on his torso. The figure has severed arms and stands surrounded by human body parts, with a burning village and church on a hill in the background. Unsurprisingly, almost all the lyrics on the album are strongly anti-Christian. The bottom of the cover features the familiar Parental Advisory Explicit Content warning.
