So long, and thanks for the face masks!

“Now I think I understand why this all occurred to me. Just as I was really starting to like it in the Netherlands, the pandemic disrupted everything. So for the last year, during lockdown, I had to search for the remnants of what I liked there and what kept my spirits up.”

So Long, and Thanks for All the Masks! is a spontaneous, honest account of the joys and mishaps of youth, of the kind of dreams you can only have in your twenties. The author was inspired by his personal experiences during his university studies in the Netherlands. This fresh student story offers a unique testimony to the inner world, the joys and confusions of the soul, and the challenging days of a young man who stepped out into the world from the safety of his family background. Together with the author, we experience tense and relaxed moments in The Hague, a demanding work schedule, persistently bad weather, problematic studies, and troubles with the pandemic. And also a slowly strengthening relationship with the country that, for a time, became his home.
