The story of the maid Continued

When the van door slammed behind Fred at the end of The Handmaid's Tale, readers had no idea whether she was facing freedom, prison, or death. But those who waited, after thirty-five years of suspense, got The Testimony.

Margaret Atwood continues the story of Gilead more than fifteen years after June disappeared to an unknown location, and develops it in the harrowing accounts of three female characters who had something to do with the regime, albeit each in a different role. It is no coincidence that the acclaimed author won the prestigious Booker Prize for her increasingly topical work - in which a searing, guileless and fearless critique of totalitarianism is woven into an effective tool.

"Dear readers: I was inspired to write this book by everything you've ever asked me about Gilead and its machinery. Almost everything. Another source of inspiration is the world we live in." - Margaret Atwood
