The Art of Winning
The story of the man who took on the world and created Nike
As a young man, Phil Knight, then a recent business school graduate, borrowed fifty dollars from his father and started a company with one simple goal: to import high-quality, yet inexpensive running shoes from Japan. In his first year, 1963, he sold shoes out of the trunk of his car and made eight thousand dollars.
Today, Nike's annual sales are thirty billion dollars. In today's age of start-up projects, Knight's company is the gold standard and its "pipe" is more than just a logo. It is a symbol of elegance and success, one of the few icons that is instantly recognisable even in the remotest corners of the world.
But Phil Knight himself, the man behind this success, has always been shrouded in mystery. In his memoirs, formulated in a straightforward, humble, amusing and surprising way, he finally tells his story himself.
