The black darkness of oblivion

Don Miller is happily married to a woman who is everything to him. At the same time, he has suffered from mysterious memory lapses all his life and rarely recalls some strange incidents from their past together. It is only at the end of his life that Don reveals, why they're afraid of the dark in the first place, why the basement door of a country house scares him so much, that his wife inherited, and all that lies in the surrounding woods... Laird Barron presents in this novel the most complete picture yet of his Lovecraftian horror myth of otherworldly creatures, called "The Children of the Old Leech." which he has already outlined in several cult stories. Quotes/expletives from the cover: "If I had to put money on who the best horror writer of our generation is, I'd say Laird Barron." - Michael Shea Laird Barron (*1970) is an American horror writer originally from Palmer, Alaska. His first collection, The Imago Sequence (2007), won the Shirley Jackson Prize. He also received the same award for his second collection Occultatíon and Other Stories (Occulta¬ce, 2010). His collection The Beautiful Thing That Awaits Us All (2013) earned him the Bram Sto¬ker Prize for Change for the first time. The most recent collection so far is Swift to Chase (2016). His gritty pulp novels Blood Standard (2018) and Black Mountain (2019) are also available in Czech translation.
