The forest of hanging foxes
Friendship over gold? Sure, but having both is not a bad thing.
A criminal fleeing with stolen gold from a former crony, a burnt-out officer looking for a new direction in life, and a ninety-year-old old woman refusing to trade her house for an old people's home - these are the three unlikely protagonists of the humorous novel The Forest of the Hanged Foxes, whose paths intersect in the frozen, barren landscape of northern Lapland.
The coexistence of the disparate trio is a bit scratchy at first, but in the end, Oiva Juntunen, Major Remes and old Naska build a surprisingly comfortable retreat at the end of the world, where they lack almost nothing - except peace, because they've been getting one unwelcome visitor after another, including a reindeer cop or a multiple murderer.
The popular Finnish humourist returns to his native Lapland, where his characters will have many surprising adventures.

The secret of Paasilinn's success is that he writes in a very simple, engaging and readable way - yet not shallowly, but about important and essential things.

Paasilinn's storytelling skills, his sense of black humour and absurd comic situations, and last but not least the social subtext of his stories were already evident in his first internationally successful book.
