Ivan Trojan in the title role of the famous comedy, in which money is the only thing on the front row.
The five-act play in prose, whose protagonist is a usurer and sick miser who loves his money more than any of his fellow men, was written in 1668. Today it is one of Molière's most acclaimed plays, but at the time of its composition it did not attract much acclaim. The popularity of the comedy came later, but today it is one of the author's most acclaimed plays, and the name of the main character has become synonymous with a miserly man.
The Miser is a drama of one family and also a character comedy in which the plot and situations serve to reveal, in all its inappropriateness and ridiculousness, the irrepressible vice of the main character. Harpagon, a widower and father of two grown-up children, Kleant and Eliška, is obsessed with accumulating money and is convinced that everyone wants to deprive him of it. So he tries to appear poor on the outside, and he is equally stingy when it comes to household expenses and the needs of his children. The unbearable family situation comes to a head when Harpagon decides to marry off his daughter and son against their will, as he himself is planning to marry a girl many years younger. The father seems to have all the means to get his way, only to be hit at his most sensitive spot when the money he has hidden at home goes missing.
The Miser is one of the plays that always seems to change completely according to the cast and the interpretation of the main character, so Molière's The Miser by František Filipovský was different, another by Miloš Kopecký or Boris Rösner. Now the director Lukáš Hlavica has come up with his radio version, offering the title character to Ivan Trojan.
