With this inspiring guide you will gain a whole new relationship with the plants around you and learn:
to stop and pay attention to the plants in your surroundings, even those that sprout boldly in cracked sidewalks
to believe that plants are more than just pretty decorations
see the world from the perspective of the plant kingdom and think about sustainability
serve the plants by knowing which species are suitable for your home and creating a natural habitat for them (bonus: not a single plant will die! )
If you start taking care of the greenery, you will soon be overwhelmed by a calming joy. Apart from the obvious benefits - beauty and cleaner air - taking care of your plants will take you on a journey of mindfulness and bring you many more: thanks to plants, you will minimize stress, lower your blood pressure and look at the world more positively.
When I moved from rural Pennsylvania to Brooklyn fourteen years ago, I knew I would have to engage in a lot of creativity to feel at home here. So I started bringing plants to my new apartment that I found on the side of the road, in long forgotten pots, at farmers markets and local gardening stores. I found a way, how to put them on the shelves, hang up, to tie up, anchor and secure, to deal with the lack of light and the narrow windowsills. Since then, I have cared for more than a thousand houseplants.
I love my houseplants and have learned how to care for them so that they return the love. I wrote this book so that you too can appreciate plants - and the life among them.
