This triple album of Filip Topol's solo concert recordings offers a glimpse into one important, distinctive aspect of the musician and poet's world. Perhaps the most "intimate and personal, unshielded by any collective," as he himself used to say.
Filip Topol began his career as a singer at the piano. He first performed for an audience on 22nd April 1978, less than two months before his thirteenth birthday, at Václav Havel's Hrádeček. The largest part of his creative work was undoubtedly with the band Psí vojáci, which he founded shortly thereafter.
But his parallel solo performances have their own artistic logic. When we listen to well-known Psí vojáci songs like Žiletky, Sbohem a řetěz, Chce se mi spát, or Nebe je zatažený performed by the solitary artist, they naturally have a different feel.
A timeless composition simply allows for various interpretations and can convey its message in different moods, forms, and shapes. Quietly and loudly, soothingly and dramatically, subtly and intensely, gently and coarsely, resignedly and defiantly, hopelessly and hopefully, loosely and densely. Often all at once.
These concert recordings are from the Na Rampě club in Jablonec nad Nisou in December 2000 and 2001. They capture the club atmosphere and sound, painting a picture of one of the most interesting personalities and great talents of Filip Topol.
