Traitors of Rome

Traitors of Rome in a Time of War and Intrigue

The year is AD 56. General Corbulo has amassed an army of twenty thousand men for the war with Parthia. The Second Praetorian Cohort, under the command of veterans Tribune Cato and Centurion Macro, is ready for battle. However, the auxiliary units, which are poorly trained and lack proper equipment, are not. The Romans cannot march before winter at the earliest, as they would face certain defeat.

The general decides on a ruse. He sends a delegation led by Cato to the Parthian king to negotiate a peace treaty. However, the terms proposed by the Roman side are unacceptable to the Parthians, and the real purpose of the mission is to prevent the king from attacking the general's forces with his army for a certain period. But it seems the goddess Fortuna has ceased to favour the legionaries. Cato soon learns firsthand that a traitor within his own delegation is a more dangerous enemy than the Parthian king. And Macro must rise to a situation that will be a huge test of his courage and military skill. Traitors of Rome is the eighteenth volume in the author's Eagles of the Empire novel series.

Simon Scarrow

Simon Scarrow is a British author of historical novels. Born in Nigeria in 1962, he then lived with his parents in a number of other countries. After arriving in Britain, he studied history at the University of East Anglia and then taught the subject at City College Norwich. He specialised in Roman history and organised educational trips for students to historical sites and museums, during which he deepened his knowledge even further. He then decided to put his knowledge to good use and began writing the kind of books he himself would like to read – thrilling military stories set in the past. He became famous for a series of, to date, sixteen novels about the Roman legionaries Macro and Cato, all of which have also been published in Czech. In addition, Scarrow is the author of the four-part Revolution series set during the Napoleonic Wars, the novels Hearts of Stone and Sword and Scimitar, and the Gladiator trilogy for young adults. Together with T. J. Andrews, he has written two series of short stories, Arena and Invader, first published as e-books, and with Lee Francis, the thriller Playing with Death. Simon Scarrow has two sons and lives in Norfolk.
