Various: Ostravská Broadway - CD

These days, you can travel to Ostrava for a fantastic musical experience. The Operetta/Musical company of the Moravian-Silesian National Theatre has recently been staging a whole host of world-class musicals and its own original productions.

It even holds an official world record, recognised in London: four productions of the king of musicals, Andrew Lloyd Webber (Evita, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, Sunset Boulevard, and Jesus Christ Superstar) in the repertoire in a single season. A fifth title (Cats) is planned for next year. This selection of the most famous melodies from the best that has been and is being performed in Ostrava was recorded with the leading role performers, accompanied by top-class orchestras, namely the Czech Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Gustav Brom Radio Big Band.

Among them are Thalia Award winner Hana Fialová, Martina Šnytová, and Roman Harok, who are now darlings of not just the local audience. A number of musical performers from other cities have also made a home on the Ostrava stage: Tomáš Savka, Roman Tomeš, Katarína Hasprová, Lukáš Adam, and Jitka Zelenková, who is a guest performer in Ostrava as Queen Victoria in the musical The Phantom of London, which won three awards at the DIMF International Festival in South Korea.

The recordings on the CD Ostrava's Broadway were created over the last few years in a co-production between Czech Radio and the Musical-media agency, in collaboration with the Moravian-Silesian National Theatre. They were primarily intended for the radio programme Musical Express. Now they are being released on CD with a range of photographs and information. Please accept this CD as an invitation to see truly world-class musicals. After all, Ostrava is just as far from you as you are from Ostrava.
