Charity Project - Eleven-month-old Veronika suffers from a very rare disease. She was born with severe intestinal problems and has a stoma which means a small intestine is diverted through an opening in her stomach. This causes skin irritations. She therefore urgently needs a recuperative stay at the seaside at least once a year so that her skin can heal. Her disease is commonly called „short bowel syndrome”. She was diagnosed with Hirschsprung's disease with aganglionosis, which led to total constipation, which was resolved through surgery of her intestinal track, including her large intestine. Veronika cannot absorb food normally and most of her nutrients are infused by so-called parenteral nutrition into the central venous catheter, which has the subcutaneous tunnel inserted into the subclavian vein. Veronika's disease is rare and both parents and doctors are still learning how to deal with it.
