The book is intended for programmers who use some other programming tool and would like to switch to programming in Visual Studio.NET primarily using Visual Basic.NET. The prerequisite is knowledge of basic concepts (e.g. loop, condition, variable, SQL), although it may not be deep. Since most publications on this topic emphasize the so-called. fat client, the authors focused on the thin client. Using a model example of creating an Invoicing application, the book introduces you to the procedures necessary to create professional applications. It is oriented towards working with databases and ignores those parts of Visual Studio that it considers unnecessary from this point of view. The data model contains only the necessary number of entities to be as informative as possible without being complex. The basic information is not left out either, such as the correct installation procedures of the necessary environments - Visual Studio.NET, .NET Framework and MS SQL 2005, you'll know more than that when you've mastered it, which reference manual to use if necessary, but also how and where to find more information. František Šíma is a graduate of CTU FEL. He started with computer technology in 1980. He worked with COBOL and DataFlex, for which he was trained, and now he works with Navision and Visual Studio. He taught mathematics externally at a grammar school. He focuses on accounting software development and data modelling. In addition, he developed programs for betting shops and district courts in Prague. He is currently self-employed and develops custom software. David Vilímek is a graduate of CTU FEL. He has been interested in computing since elementary school and has gradually become familiar with a variety of programming languages. He has been programming professionally for more than six years, mainly complex enterprise, banking and business systems on Oracle, MS SQL, ASE Sybase and MySQL databases. He currently works as an employee of the stock exchange company Fio, a. s., at the core of the real-time trading system on the BSE and on foreign markets. His secondary activity is consulting and advising companies in the field of data modelling, application architecture and user interface solutions.
