We' re Home: Three Crosses - CD

When a band has been around for 30 years, it's a reason to celebrate. When those 30 years are also filled with thousands of successful concerts, tours through dozens of countries, and a string of highly acclaimed albums, it's even more of a reason to celebrate. But because the band Už jsme doma isn't just a relic of its former self, but a living, active, energetic, and inspiring entity, this celebration is merely a pleasant milestone in its relentless history.

15 years ago, Už jsme doma released the CD 15 kapek vody (15 Drops of Water), a kind of 'Best of' for that period. It was a compilation of existing recordings. Now, for their 30th anniversary, another compilation is in order. But this time, the band decided to re-record their songs, giving them completely or at least partially new arrangements. Jassica has swapped the piano for a guitar, Hollywood has taken on a bit of a Latin feel, a Wallachian note and a waltz in 4/4 time appear in Koroze (Corrosion), and Mariana briefly becomes a campfire song. And so it goes, song by song, some more changed than others. Half of the songs on this album were chosen by the fans themselves, and their new titles are a small test for listeners to see if they can match them to the originals.

This compilation is called Tři křížky (Three Crosses), and Martin Velíšek has once again delivered. The cover art features a hill with three crosses, the essential little house, a gallows, and a deer (this time more of a reindeer). And since it's a hill, there are skiers too, of course. Hanging on the crosses (yes, hanging, because Velíšek didn't even nail baby Jesus Franta up) are three figures – a writer, a musician, and a painter, representing words, music, and images. It is at the intersection of these three categories that everything Už jsme doma has created over the past 30 years has been born, and, baby Jesus Franta willing, will continue to be born in the future.
