Years of flight

Years and Years, an extensive, almost thousand-page memoir by Josef Hiršal and Bohumila Grögerová, is an important testimony to Czech culture and society in the 1950s and 1960s. We present the memories and diary entries of two exceptional personalities on the occasion of the centenary of Josef Hiršal' s birth. The text is a collage of diary entries, poems, short prose pieces, letters, excerpts from the period press, and other documents of the time. It is a captivating duet of two exceptional translators and writers - and although the text falls into the genre of a kind of cultural-social memoir, it reads like fiction.
