My dear!
Someone took you from me 30 years ago. Someone up there figured I could do without you. He wasn't wrong. I've been without you longer than I should have, but there are always moments when you should be there. There are people you didn't know and should have known. There are tears that you have not wiped away, and yet I longed so much for your cloth handkerchief from your left pocket. Life without You has brought so much new to me that my mind will only allow me to pull the old out of the abyss of memories with great effort.
But what bothers me the most is that I still have a lot of questions and you won't answer them anymore. They bump against each other in my head like billiard balls, longing to be spoken.
And that's why, now that I'm as big and grown up as you were then, I decided to write to you. Write about everything: who I am, who I aspire to become and what my world is made of. At least I'll send you something of myself when I write to you by invisible mail. I won't wait for any more answers. It's enough for me that the time I spend on questions for you, I spend with you. Your M.

Martina Preissová was born in 1975 in Znojmo into a family of teachers, painters, musicians and winemakers. The dream of becoming a teacher was replaced right after graduation by the need to move on. She discovered her love for theatre and enrolled at the Janáček Academy of Performing Arts. After graduation, she stopped for a while at the National Theatre in Brno, and since 2000 she has been a member of the drama department of the National Theatre in Prague. She cooperates with Czech Television, makes TV series, teaches acting at DAMU and is a loving mother to her two sons and a dear half of her husband, actor Martin Preiss, whom she met elsewhere than in the theatre. She wrote her first book, a very personal book of short stories, How I Wasn't on the Lions and Other Stories, in 2021. Her second book, Do They Have Glasses in Heaven? is a short story cycle loosely inspired by his childhood in the late 1980s in a South Moravian village. Martina's third book Your M. was created so that letter writing would not remain in the last century. And because she never wrote enough letters to her dad. Now that he's gone, she feels the need to write to him all the more.
