Four years ago, when Zdeněk Svěrák published his first book, entitled Tales, it was a great success not only with readers but also with listeners, because the book was later adapted into an audio version.
Last year Svěrák published New Stories, which won the Bestseller 2011 award in the Czech Republic, although it was not published until the end of the year.
His New Stories is now available as a 2-CD audiobook. Most of the stories were again read by the author himself, one story, called Purchase, which is an inner monologue of an unhappy wife, is read by Daniela Kolářová.
A total of six stories are connected by Svěrák's art of creating a whole plot from a hint, from a randomly overheard fragment, which always has a number of interesting, often funny peripetias and an unexpected punchline. In his interpretation, Svěrák is able to nuance his expression from enthusiastic jubilation to whispers, tenderness, or even amused irony.
Short stories--Bethlehemic light, Our class reunion, Purchase, About a decent taxi driver, On the train, Stoned Love are on these 2CDs
