The MSI MPG B550 GAMING PLUS motherboard is the foundation for gaming rigs built on the AMD AM4 platform. It supports Ryzen 3000, 4000G, and 5000 series processors and DDR4 RAM with frequencies up to 4400MHz in overclocking mode. This ATX board uses the AMD B550 chipset, which provides access to the PCIe 4.0 interface for the graphics card and one of the two M.2 storage drives. For connecting other components, there are two PCIe x16 slots with AMD CrossFire support and two PCIe x1 slots. Its PCB contains a 2oz copper layer for better conductivity and heat dissipation. The pre-installed I/O shield simplifies motherboard installation into the computer case and protects the ports from damage and electrostatic discharge. The Flash BIOS Button function allows you to update the BIOS using a USB key, even without a processor, memory, or graphics card installed. This feature makes system recovery easier in case of problems and ensures compatibility with newly released processors.

The digital power system, with its 10+2+1 phase design and Core Boost technology, delivers a precise and uninterrupted current to the processor. This solution supports stable operation for multi-core AMD Ryzen processors, even under heavy loads. Core Boost technology combines a premium circuit layout with digital power control. The reinforced PCB with a 2oz copper layer contributes to better heat dissipation and overall system reliability. This results in greater stability during overclocking.
Effective cooling and interfaces for high-speed components
The cooling system maintains low operating temperatures for key components. An extended heatsink on the VRM efficiently dissipates heat from the power delivery system, ensuring stability even during prolonged use. The M.2 Shield Frozr heatsink prevents thermal throttling on high-speed NVMe SSDs, maintaining their full transfer speeds. Temperatures and fan speeds can be managed in the Total Fan Control interface. The board offers modern interfaces for gaming performance. The main PCIe x16 slot operates on the PCIe 4.0 standard, providing full bandwidth for graphics cards. It is also reinforced with Steel Armor technology. One of the two M.2 slots, designated Lightning Gen 4, achieves transfer speeds of up to 64Gb/s. For additional drives, there are six SATA III ports and a second M.2 slot with Gen 3 support.
Connectivity and audio features
The rear panel includes USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports with speeds of 10Gb/s, complemented by USB 3.2 Gen 1 and USB 2.0. For case connections, the board offers internal headers, including a connector for front USB-C. The Realtek ALC897 audio chip with Audio Boost technology and isolated circuitry delivers clean 8-channel sound. Separate PCB layers for the left and right channels reduce crosstalk and contribute to signal purity.
