Niquitin mini Citrus 4 mg 3 × 20 compressed lozenges
NiQuitin is used to help people quit smoking. This type of treatment is called nicotine replacement therapy (NRT). NiQuitin is indicated for the treatment of adults and adolescents (12-17 years of age, in consultation with a physician). NiQuitin is for smokers who smoke more than 20 cigarettes per day. The goal of treatment is to permanently stop using tobacco. NiQuitin can also be used to gradually quit smoking in smokers who are unwilling or unable to quit abruptly. NiQuitin is primarily to be used as part of a supportive behavioural smoking cessation programme.
Dosage
Always take NiQuitin exactly as directed in the package insert or by your doctor or pharmacist. If you are unsure, consult your doctor or pharmacist. This product is intended for oral administration (to be dissolved in the oral cavity). This means that the nicotine from the lozenges is slowly released in the mouth and absorbed by the oral mucosa into the body. Place one NiQuitin lozenge in your mouth and move it from one side of your mouth to the other from time to time until completely dissolved. It takes about 10 minutes. Do not chew or swallow the lozenge whole.
Quit smoking immediately:
For up to 6 weeks, take 1 lozenge whenever you feel the urge to smoke (you can take 8-12 lozenges a day). Gradually reduce the number of traps used during the day. When you only need 1 or 2 lozenges a day, stop taking them altogether. After you stop smoking, you may sometimes feel a sudden craving for a cigarette. In this situation, you can use the lozenge again.
Smoking cessation:
When you feel a strong urge to smoke, use NiQuitin instead of a cigarette. Reduce the number of cigarettes smoked per day as much as possible. If you are unable to reduce the number of cigarettes you smoke after 6 weeks of taking the lozenges, consult your doctor. As soon as you feel up to it, stop smoking altogether. Follow the instructions for quitting smoking in one go above as soon as possible. If you have not completely stopped smoking within 6 months of starting NiQuitin, consult your doctor. Do not exceed the stated dose. Follow the instructions carefully and do not use more than 15 traps per day (24 hours). If you feel you must take NiQuitin for a total of more than 9 months, consult your physician.
Teens (12-17 years inclusive):
You can take NiQuitin only on the advice of your doctor.
Contraindications
Do not take NiQuitin if you are allergic to nicotine or any of the other ingredients in this product, are a child under 12 years of age, or are a non-smoker.
Notice
Consult your physician before taking NiQuitin, if you have recently had a heart attack or stroke, you have severe heart rhythm disturbances, unstable or worsening angina, diabetes, severe or moderate liver disease or severe kidney disease, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Do not mistake NiQuitin lozenges for nicotine gum when trying to quit smoking. This medicine must not be taken by children under 12 years of age.
Tell your doctor or pharmacist about all medicines you are taking or have recently taken, even medicines that are available without a prescription. Nicotine is likely to potentiate some of the effects of drugs to treat irregular or rapid heartbeat (adenosine), i.e. an increase in blood pressure, heart rate and pain response. Quitting smoking may affect the effect of some of the other medicines you take. You must not eat or drink while NiQuitin lozenge is in your mouth.
Storage
Keep this product out of sight and reach of children. Do not use this product after the expiry date stated on the box and tablet packaging after EXP. The expiry date shall be the last day of the month indicated. Store at temperatures up to 25 °C. Store in the original tablet container to protect the product from moisture. Do not use the packaging for other purposes due to possible contamination by fine dust from the traps. Do not dispose of any medicines in wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of products you no longer use. These measures help protect the environment.
