The TP-LINK TL-WR820N WiFi router is a basic solution for creating a home wireless network. It operates on the Wi-Fi 4 (802.11n) standard in a single 2.4GHz frequency band and provides a transfer speed of up to 300Mbps, which is sufficient for normal web browsing, video streaming and file downloads. Two fixed 5dBi antennas combined with 2×2 MIMO technology improve signal strength and stability and extend wireless coverage in smaller spaces, such as two-bedroom flats. Wired connectivity is provided by two LAN ports with a speed of 10/100Mbps and one WAN port. The device also supports the modern IPv6 internet protocol and IPTV optimisation features.

In addition to the standard router function, it can be switched to Access Point mode to create a new wireless network from a wired connection. To optimise internet TV streaming, the router supports IPTV, including IGMP Proxy/Snooping, Bridge and Tag VLAN functions. The technology helps to stream video content smoothly without stuttering. You can manage the network through a clear web interface, which is accessible from any browser. Alternatively, you can use the TP-Link Tether mobile app, which simplifies both initial setup and subsequent network administration directly from your phone. Support for the IPv6 protocol prepares the network for future internet connection standards.
Network Security and Parental Controls
The device integrates several security mechanisms to protect your home network. Wireless transmission is protected by WPA, WEP, WPA2, WPA-PSK, and WPA2-PSK encryption standards. Other security features include an SPI firewall, access control, and IP and MAC address binding, which prevents unauthorised devices from connecting. In addition, the router's parental controls allow you to set time limits and block inappropriate content for specific devices.
