Platter hard disks have a notably special construction. Inside the enclosure there is a mechanism that uses moving platters accompanied by hard disk heads that facilitate reading and writing of data. These moving parts can be damaged by a shock or impact, but this design delivers a great combo of a low price and great storage capacity. File access speed and overall stability is also determined by the disk buffer - the so-called cache. The Western Digital HDD features a 512 MB cache that stores the last used data for their prompt retrieval and reading.
Connecting the Western Digital HDD
In order to mount the WD Gold 20TB in your PC or other device, you need a 3.5" slot. All communication with the computer takes place through the SATA III interface with a standard speed of 6 Gbit/s. The technology is one of the most popular HDD data transfer options available and delivers a throughput of 600 MB/s.
