Sulforaphane is a phytonutrient found in several plants, especially in cruciferous vegetables. In plants, sulforaphane acts as a protector of the plant against insects, bacteria, viruses and fungi. BrainMax Sulphoraphane contains in one dose (2 capsules) 35 mg of sulforaphane derived from broccoli seed extract.
What is sulforaphane?
Sulforaphane is a bioactive substance found in cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower and broccoli sprouts. They contain several health benefits, led by glucoraphanin, which is converted to sulforaphane when consumed. Although sulforaphane is found in cruciferous vegetables, cooking rapidly degrades this substance. And in cooked vegetables is almost no longer. However, for many people it is not possible to consume raw cruciferous vegetables in such quantities to ensure an optimal dose of sulforaphane.

Sulforaphane is effective primarily because it is a very small molecule that enters the cell relatively easily and can even penetrate the blood-brain barrier to the brain. It also supports the function of NK cells, which are the cells of the immune system that are the front line in the fight against pathogens. Although some vegetables contain sulforaphane, the enzyme myrosinase is needed to release sulforaphane. This enzyme is essentially the key to sulforaphane. It is formed by chewing these vegetables in their raw state. By the time we cook the vegetables, this enzyme is no longer present and so we cannot unlock the pathway to sulforaphane. In commonly available supplements, the amount of sulforaphane is usually in the order of micrograms.
