Nintendo 3DS Pink + Nintendogs and Cats Golden Retriever
The ground-breaking Nintendo 3DS is the first gaming handheld capable of displaying stereoscopic 3D images without the help of 3D glasses. This evokes the feel of open space when playing, improving your immersion and even the way you control your character. The 3D effect settings can be adjusted with a dedicated slider located on the device. Alternatively, you can turn it off altogether and play in the classic 2D mode.
Two displays
The bottom touch screen can be operated either with your fingers or with a telescopic stylus. The top screen displays three-dimensional images, all without 3D glasses. Near the upper screen you will also find the Depth Slider, which allows you to fine-tune the 3D effect to your liking. The slider lets you adjust the 3D depth intensity, from the full 3D effect to a simple 2D view, depending on your preferences.
Circle Pad
In addition to the control elements you may know from the old Nintendo DS, such as the D-pad or dedicated buttons near the bottom screen, the Nintendo 3DS introduces the new Circle Pad that allows a full 360° view around the player's axis. This feature is indispensable in 3D gaming, where old limitations are felt more keenly than ever. The Circle Pad provides the same degree of sensitivity that gamers previously experienced in Super Mario 64, when Nintendo introduced a new analogue controller for their Nintendo 64 home console.
Built-in motion sensor and gyro sensor
The sensors react to the motion and tilt of the system. If you move your handheld side to side or up and down, the Nintendo 3DS will respond instantly.
StreetPass
Turn on your StreetPass app and you can exchange data about the games you have played or personal progress with other Nintendo 3DS owners you pass on the street. StreetPass also allows you to exchange Mii characters, game maps, high scores, or custom game characters.
SpotPass
SpotPass lets your Nintendo 3DS automatically connect to a public or your home Wi-Fi network, even while in sleep mode. Once connected, the system will automatically download new bonus content and updates available.
Camera
The Nintendo 3DS has three cameras in total: one is a classic integrated camera and faces the player, the other two are located in the upper part of the casing and their lenses face outward. These two outward-facing cameras are the ones that capture three-dimensional images. Pre-installed software then lets you edit 3D photos and even use them in the also pre-installed Face Raiders game, where you shoot caricatures of the photos you have taken.
3D Sound
With this app, your Nintendo 3DS can become a useful music player that supports MP3 and AAC files. Additionally, this feature allows you to adjust music files or sounds you record into your device. The handheld also offers an improved web browser, available for download through a content update.
Mii Maker
The new Mii Maker app provides even greater customisation options for Mii characters than its Wii predecessor. Players can not only import their Miis from the Wii to Nintendo 3DS (using SD cards), but also take their picture with the integrated camera and Mii Maker will automatically transform it into a Mii. Players can even save their Miis to an SD card as an image and then use it in other apps and services, such as Facebook or Twitter.
AR Games
Scan AR Cards via the Nintendo 3DS outer camera and enter the incredible world of augmented reality. Your mundane surroundings (such as your kitchen) will transform into an amazing gaming world in an instant.
Parental controls
The console also has a parental lock. This allows you to restrict your kids' internet access or some features that support Wi-Fi. If you have small children, you will probably appreciate the option to turn off 3D image completely or limit the time your child spends playing, all with a single PIN.
Other features
Fans of online play will be no doubt pleased that codes are no longer tied to individual games. Now they are tied directly to the console, so if you and your friends exchange your hardware codes once, you can open your friend list anytime and see who is currently online and what they are playing.
The Nintendo 3DS is also compatible with older games designed for the Nintendo DS. They are read from SD cards, though they do not support the 3D effect for obvious reasons. The new handheld has an SD card slot and the packaging includes an extra 2 GB SD card.
