Stranger Than Heaven Xbox Series X (formerly known as Project Century) is a new action-noir adventure game from Ryu Ga Gotoku (creators of the Yakuza series). Starring detective Mako Daito, whose fate is intertwined between three distinct time periods, 1915, 1929 and 1943, in the dark and atmospheric setting of Japan.
Stranger Than Heaven Xbox Series X promises intense battles driven by the weight of punches, use of environments, Molotovs and weapons. Moral decisions that test the humanity of the main character play a significant role in the story and gameplay.
An official release date for Stranger Than Heaven Xbox Series X has not yet been announced. Most speculation is pointing towards SEGA's fiscal year ending March 31, 2027, which means a possible release in late 2026 to first half of 2027.
NAME
Stranger Than Heaven Xbox Series X, formerly known as Project Century, is a brand new IP from RGG Studio (Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio), which is backed by SEGA. It was first unveiled at The Game Awards 2024 and confirmed under that name at Summer Game Fest 2025.
STORY
Stranger Than Heaven Xbox Series X's protagonist, Mako Daito, is an introverted detective who is drawn into a convoluted detective story spanning three pivotal years: 1915, 1929 a 1943. The story is set in a stylised Japanese setting, particularly the fictional Sotenbori district (inspired by Dotonbori in Osaka).
ATMOSPHERE
Stranger Than Heaven Xbox Series X gameplay is built around brutal physical combat, weaponry, Molotov cocktails and interactive environments. A touch of introspection is brought by choices such as "show him mercy" versus "no mercy". Survival elements such as hunger and thirst are also included, adding another layer of realism to the game
ISSUE
There is currently no confirmed release date, but according to SEGA, the game may be released in late 2026 or early 2027. Platforms have not yet been officially confirmed, but a release on PlayStation, Xbox and PC is expected, given the game's production background and visual requirements.
