Fortunately, the wooden schooner Kirk and Sweeney was anchored just outside US territorial waters. Small boats would arrive to collect supplies of quality Caribbean rum, which they then smuggled to the coast. The local people were saved. The Kirk and Sweeney brand pays homage to these rum-running heroes. Kirk and Sweeney 12 Year Old Rum is made in the Dominican Republic from sugar cane. After distillation, it rests for twelve years in American oak casks before being bottled in luxurious, nautically-themed bottles.
