Grandmother Růžena is mourning her recently deceased husband. Twenty-year-old granddaughter Sofie is in her first year of university; she should be enjoying life, but she barely notices anything beyond her smartphone. Mother Alena has recently divorced. Each of the women in this family is dealing with her own serious problems. In a last desperate attempt to pull her mother out of her gloom, Alena buys a trip to Sardinia for all three of them—a place her mother has wanted to visit her whole life. As soon as the car carrying the three women crosses the Italian border, things start to happen! Smiling Italians, refreshing ice cream, and the best pizza in the world cure the grandmother's depression. For Sofie, her mum and grandma are no longer just “cringey boomers,” and even anxious Alena starts to see the world as a nice place. Suddenly, besides being on holiday, they are united by a new task—to uncover the fate of their relative, Helena, who was swept away from South Bohemia to Sardinia by the wild whirlwind of history. All three realise that in Sardinia, they are not just searching for the past, but also for their own identities.
