This time Jiří Březina left the criminal Tomáš Volf. He plays out a new detective story with different characters and uses an unusual narrative approach. In addition to the investigation, the book focuses on two female protagonists perceiving the crime from a different perspective.
Jana suspects that the man she is pregnant with is hiding something. He has to uncover the truth. Radka discovers that her son has done something that cannot be undone. He has to protect him from the consequences. And in the nettles lies a girl's body. In a small town where people can see into each other's kitchens but keep secrets from each other, an investigation is launched that will reveal facts that have been withheld for years. The past is coming to the surface and with it the questions that hurt: How well do we know our loved ones? And how far are we ultimately able to go to protect them?

The České Budějovice native is one of the most outstanding Czech detective writers. His debut Na kopci (On the Hill) won the 2014 Jiří Marek Award for the best Czech detective novel. Březina repeated his success in 2020 with Flare from the detective series with police officer Tomáš Volf, which also includes the books Promlčení, Polednice, Mizení and Nalezení. He is also the author of the children's story Night Sun and the book The Swan and the Hunter, which combines his love of prehistory, myth and nature. Jurors, reviewers and readers appreciate Jiří Březina's original plots, the authenticity of the narrative and his skillful play with readers' expectations, which often results in unexpected twists and turns. His books have also been translated into Polish. He likes to spend his free time in nature, where he walks, runs, camps or rides his bike.
