John Coltrane: My Favorite Things
Music CD Released in March 1961, "My Favorite Things" is the first album on which John Coltrane plays soprano saxophone in addition to tenor saxophone. His soprano takes centre stage in two of the album's four tracks, including the unforgettable title track written by Rodgers and Hammerstein for the musical The Sound of Music. An edited version of the 14-minute original became a radio hit that spring. The song's success helped introduce Coltrane to a wider audience, and the album inspired later generations of fans. In recognition of its lasting artistic and historical significance, "My Favorite Things" was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1998 and achieved gold status in 2018. Rhino celebrates the 60th anniversary of the album.
