National Class - DVD

A film based on the book of the same name by Jaroslav Rudiš, starring Hynek Čermák, combining a dramatic story with dark humour.

This was all once a dark forest, but now a housing estate stands here. This is home to a bloke everyone calls Vandam. He lives alone in a flat on the outskirts of Prague and works out at home every day to stay in shape.
At night, when wild animals roam the estate, he goes for a pint with his mates. Vandam tries to impress Lucka, who pulls pints in the local pub. He's always up for a fight. He's an expert on history and wars. He feels the world is heading for destruction, that a great battle is brewing. And so he trains to be ready for that final, decisive battle. He also teaches Psycho, a young lad he paints the roofs of the tower blocks with.
His pub mates nickname him the "national hero". They say he set history in motion with a single punch on Národní třída back in November 1989.
