The good, the bad and the beautiful in the extraordinary life of a famous model.
Pavlína Pořízková was born and lived her childhood in communist Czechoslovakia. When she was three years old, her parents fled the regime to Sweden and it took six years before they were reunited with their young daughter.
Pavlina's charm and beauty soon appealed to Western modeling agencies. In 1984 she first appeared on the cover of the fashion magazine Sports Illustrated, and in 1989 she signed a contract with the cosmetics company Estée Lauder. Her face was everywhere. In magazines, commercials, movies. While filming the music video for the song Drive by The Cars, she met singer Rico Ocasek, with whom she fell head over heels in love. He was forty, she was only nineteen.
The following decades brought with them marriage, motherhood and the beginnings as a writer. After three decades, the marriage fell apart, feelings of sadness, loneliness, separation and finally divorce set in. After her husband's death - and the revelation of a deep betrayal - she stunned her fans with her disarming honesty when she decided to share her fear and vulnerability on Instagram.
This audiobook is the confession of a mature woman, which opens up the themes of ageing, grief, beauty, of complicated relationships, but also self-love and the search for the meaning of life. In her essays, she bares her soul and shares life lessons that have taught her much. People have been watching her all her life, it's time they started listening to her too.
Model Pavlína Pořízková has compiled a collection of intimate, introspective and informative essays about the pitfalls of womanhood at any age. He puts down the glossy cover of the magazine, writes from the heart and without exaggeration.
