Therapist

Therapist
A disturbingly sharp insight into the darkest corners of ourselves, our families and our relationships
Sara, a psychologist, has recently opened a private practice and is renovating an old inherited house with her husband, Sigurd, an architect. However, the reconstruction is dragging on due to lack of time and money. One day Sigurd goes to a cottage with his friends. He says goodbye to Sara at home early on Friday morning and leaves a message on her voicemail in the morning saying he arrived safely. But in the evening, Sara gets a call from her husband's friends asking where Sigurd has gone. They said they didn't see him at the cottage.
What happened and which one of them is lying? Strange things begin to happen in the uncomfortable house, where Sara is now all alone, and Sara feels that her own memory is deceiving her. Gradually she discovers that she did not know her husband at all.

They wrote about the book:
An exceptionally well-written psychological thriller that evokes an atmosphere of creeping suspense for me - as the genre demands.

The therapist is like a well-thought-out jigsaw puzzle in which even the very last piece has to fall into place for the whole picture to emerge. The denouement is a pleasant surprise. An extremely compelling read.
- Verdens Gang

Through the depiction of Sarah's family relationships, Helene Flood explores the fundamental themes of morality and ethics: the relationship between the needs of the individual and the collective, the right to life and the question of who, if anyone, can decide about being and non-being.
