Anyone can become prey. The eighth instalment in the Millennium series
In northern Sweden, raw capitalism, ecological decline and crime run rife. The town of Gasskas becomes the stage for a drama triggered by the death of a local journalist. Mikael Blomkvist returns north for his daughter – and for one last chance at a story that could salvage his fading career. When Lisbeth’s protector Plague disappears, the underworld reaches for her. Svala is in mortal danger because the mysterious Branco is back on the scene with a single goal: revenge. Can anyone stop what has already been set in motion?
Karin Smirnoff
Karin Smirnoff (born 1964) is a Swedish writer who originally worked as a journalist before deciding on a career change and buying a wood company in northern Sweden. She later graduated from the literary academy at Lund University, and it was during this time that she began writing a trilogy featuring protagonist Jana Kippo, set in a village near the author's birthplace of Umeå. The very first volume, My Brother (Jag for ner till bror, 2018), became a sensation in Sweden and earned a nomination for the prestigious August Prize. The entire trilogy – including Our Mother (Vi for upp med mor, 2019) and Home Return (Sen for jag hem, 2020) – is highly acclaimed by readers and critics alike for its literary quality. This family drama tells of hidden traumas, battles with addiction and the desire to belong. Depicting the Kippo family's fate with raw tenderness and a unique voice, the author reveals cruel human motives in all their painful exposure. In 2021, the publishers officially announced Karin Smirnoff as the next author to continue the bestselling Millennium series.
