The SONOFF SenseGuard Motion Gen2 SNZB-03PR2 motion sensor uses PIR technology for rapid motion detection and smart home automation. It detects motion within 3 seconds, and the repeat detection interval can be set between 5 and 60 seconds. A separate light sensor measures the ambient light intensity and allows you to combine the lux value with motion detection, for example, to automatically turn on the lights. The sensor communicates via Zigbee, offers a detection range of up to 6m, and its position can be adjusted using the adjustable magnetic base.
PIR technology reacts to human movement based on changes in the surrounding infrared radiation. The SONOFF SNZB-03PR2 can detect motion within 3 seconds, and the interval between individual detections can be set from 5 to 60 seconds. Adjusting the interval helps to tailor the frequency of automation triggers to the specific space and its usage.
The integrated lux sensor measures ambient light intensity independently of motion detection and also supports calibration. The light level can be used as a condition for a smart scene and combined with information about detected motion. For example, the lights can automatically turn on only after dark and when a person arrives. The history of measured light levels can cover up to 6 months.
The PIR sensor covers an area up to a distance of approximately 6 metres and is suitable for places like hallways, staircases, or near entrance doors. The wide field of view allows it to capture movement in a larger part of the monitored area. Detection can be affected by ambient temperature conditions, obstacles in front of the sensor, or very slow or, conversely, very fast movement.
The motion sensor can also be used as a trigger for security scenes. When motion is detected, automation can activate the alarm of a compatible Zigbee gateway, send a notification to the app, or start recording on a connected camera. The specific options depend on the Zigbee gateway used and the connected devices.
You can place the SONOFF SenseGuard Motion Gen2 on a suitable surface or mount it using the magnetic base, adhesive tape, or screws. The adjustable sensor position allows you to aim the detection area exactly where you need it. Proper aiming can also limit the space where pets move—however, it is not a sensor resistant to false detections caused by animals, as PIR can also react to their body heat. A separately sold case is available for recessed ceiling installation.
The Zigbee sensor can also be integrated into the Apple Home ecosystem via a compatible Matter Bridge. For the connection, you can use, for example, the SONOFF ZBBridge-U, iHost, NSPanel Pro, or a solution with Cube OS. The SNZB-03PR2 itself is not a Matter device—it is brought into the Matter ecosystem via a compatible gateway.
The sensor is based on the Zigbee 3.0 standard and can also be used with selected third-party platforms and Zigbee coordinators. This compatibility allows the SNZB-03PR2 to be integrated into more open smart home systems, for example. For ZHA and SmartThings, adding this specific model currently requires a corresponding script. Additionally, the availability of light measurement may vary depending on the gateway used.
The sensor is powered by a single 3V CR2477 coin-cell battery, so it doesn't require a power cable. Thanks to its battery operation, it can be easily placed even where a power socket is not available. The sensor's status and functions are then transmitted via the Zigbee network to a compatible gateway.
