Data Storage - external box for 4 x 2.5"/3.5" SATA III HDD/SSD, Celeron dual-core 2 CPU up to 2.5GHz, 2GB of DDR3L RAM expandable to up to 6GB, ext. RAID server, 2 x GLANs, 2 x USB 3.0
The NAS' high performance is sufficient for most tasks performance. In this case, it is a dual-core 2.5GHz CPU.
4K
The Synology DS418play is ideal for all media content fans and includes support for 4K videos.
Speed
Reading speed 226MB/sec, Write speed 185MB/sec.
Power Consumption
Despite its great performance, the NAS is optimised for long-term low power consumption. It uses approximately 5.57W in the sleep mode and 29.1W under full load.
The Synology DS418play is a professional multimedia NAS
The Synology DS418play includes a hardware acceleration transfer system and supports the H.264 / H.265 1080p and H.265 4K codecs. It converts 4K videos to 1080p so that they can be played on non-4K devices and at lower speeds, whether it's local media players or remote mobile devices. In addition, you can transfer videos from their original 4K resolution to your media player or 4K TV within your local network environment.
4K video on any device
The Synology DS418play has integrated real-time video decoding hardware already built in. Specifically, this is a 10-bit H.265 codec support. As a result, 4K videos automatically adapt to your device's screen during playback so that you can play the saved 4K video on a Full HD TV or on your mobile phone.
Wide support for additional packages
As a result of the extensive range of additional software packages that are available at the Synology Centre, you get more than just a regular NAS. Turn your Synology DS418play into a personal VPN server, a professional authentication RADIUS server, a download centre or a multimedia library, or expand it with other handy features for both home and business environments.
QuickConnect
Get easy access to your files over the Internet without bothering to set up port forwarding rules, DDNS, or other complicated network settings. QuickConnect lets you connect to your NAS securely from any device that is connected to the Internet.
Storage with a capacity of up to 48TB
Synology DS418play offers support for four 2.5" or 3.5" hard drives. Drives with a capacity of up to 12TB are currently supported. Other expansion ports that are supported include two USB 3.0 ports and, of course, an RJ-45 1GbE LAN port.
The NAS as a File Server
The Synology DS418j contains a fast and secure tool called DS File for sharing and managing your files. You can upload your data by simply dragging them onto your Mac or PC. Advanced filters make it easier to find your documents, photos or videos. The NAS can also be used as a centralised backup location. Whenever a file is edited, the changes are automatically backed up by the Cloud Station Backup. It synchronises files between the DiskStation and multiple platforms including Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS, Android, and Windows Mobile as well as Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox, Box, hubiC, and Baidu Cloud.
