The Levenhuk Kelvin Touch KM7 digital photomicroscope is designed for observing biological specimens and small objects in brightfield. The device transmits a magnified image to the built-in screen or connected external devices. The integrated 5GHz Wi-Fi module enables wireless streaming of the live image to mobile phones with iOS and Android operating systems. The optical system uses achromatic objective lenses and offers magnification in the range of 50–1,900×.
The device has a 7" colour LCD display with a resolution of 1024 × 600 px, which forms its head. The user controls all functions by touch directly on the screen without needing to connect a computer. The touchscreen makes it easy to set the imaging parameters and view saved recordings. You can adjust the head's tilt from 0° to 90° to achieve the optimal viewing angle.
The built-in camera with a 1/3" CMOS sensor records still images and videos. The photos have a resolution of 3672 × 2160 px, and video is saved at 2560 × 1440 px at 30 frames per second. Recordings are saved to a memory card of the SD type with a capacity of up to 512GB. For immediate use, the package includes a 16GB card.
The glass optics provide a clear, distortion-free image. The revolving nosepiece holds three achromatic objective lenses with 4×, 10× and 40× magnification. The total magnification is up to 1,900× when using the digital zoom. The two-stage focusing system includes coaxial coarse and fine focusing with a 0.002mm step for precise rendering of details.
The device offers several ways to transfer images and data. The HDMI port is used for direct connection to a TV or external monitor. The USB interface connects the device to a computer. Users can use the free S-Viewer computer software or the TSViewer mobile app. The system supports Windows, iOS, and Android platforms.
The dual-source illumination system uses LEDs with smooth brightness adjustment. The lower illumination is for observing transparent specimens, while the upper illumination lights up the surface of opaque objects. The combination of both light sources helps to examine the most complex structures. A condenser with a numerical aperture of 0.65 and a six-hole disc diaphragm direct the light flow.
The two-layer mechanical stage measuring 105 × 95mm holds the specimen holder and a vernier scale. The specimen moves smoothly in two axes. The built-in 18650 battery with a capacity of 2,600mAh provides power away from the mains. The battery life is 1 hour on a single charge, and a full charge takes 3 hours via a USB cable with an adapter.
