High computing performance with an Intel processor
At the heart of the NAS Asustor Lockerstor 2 Gen data storage is a quad-core Intel Celeron N5105 processor, manufactured using 10nm technology. This chip runs at a base frequency of 2GHz with an automatic boost up to 2.9GHz. The hardware platform offers 31% more performance compared to the previous Gemini Lake generation, making it easier to run demanding network services. The 4GB of DDR4 system memory runs at 2933MHz and can be expanded via two SO-DIMM slots if needed.
Four slots for fast NVMe drives
The device includes four internal M.2 2280 slots for installing fast SSDs. These bays serve as a fast cache or a separate storage space for the most frequently launched applications. Support for the PCIe 3.0 interface ensures up to twice the data transfer speed compared to the older PCIe 2.0 standard. The manufacturer has considered the increased heat from the high-performance components and has integrated enhanced cooling with additional ventilation into the design to ensure stable SSD operation.
Network connection with SMB Multichannel support
Physical connectivity is provided by two 2.5Gb/s Ethernet ports, which significantly outperform standard gigabit connections. Using the SMB Multichannel function, the NAS Asustor Lockerstor 2 Gen combines the performance of both network ports to achieve higher transfer speeds. In practice, this means you can reach read speeds of up to 591MB/s and write speeds of up to 482MB/s. For connecting external peripherals, it offers two fast USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports with a throughput of up to 10Gb/s.
4K video playback and transcoding
The multimedia features include a graphics chip with hardware decoding support, which handles smooth transcoding of 10-bit videos in high-resolution 4K H.265. Users can stream multimedia content directly to TVs, computers or mobile phones via the LooksGood application. On the back of the chassis, you will find an HDMI interface for direct connection to a monitor or TV, enabling it to function as a local multimedia centre.
Data protection and security
The ADM operating system offers robust protection for stored data against loss, corruption and ransomware attacks. The Snapshot Center tool is available, which uses the Btrfs file system to create up to 256 volume snapshots at regular five-minute intervals. Connection security is enhanced by the implementation of hybrid TLS 1.3 encryption with post-quantum cryptography algorithms. Physical data security outside the NAS itself is enabled by MyArchive cold backup technology with AES-256 encryption.
Virtualisation and application options
