The Kodak Snapic A1 film camera captures images on classic 135 (35mm) film stock. This mechanical device, with a fixed 25mm optical focal length, exposes standard 36×24mm frames. Users can shoot in various lighting conditions with the help of the built-in flash, which has a guide number of 8. The automatic film loading and motorised rewinding make daily operation in the field much easier. The durable ABS plastic construction weighs just 117g without batteries and film installed.
The camera uses a fixed wide-angle lens with a 25mm focal length. The optical system consists of a three-element glass lens with a fixed aperture of F9.5. The optics render sharp contours across the entire 36×24mm film frame. The F9.5 aperture requires plenty of natural daylight for correct exposure, or activation of the built-in flash. The shutter operates at a speed of 1/100s.
Focusing of the optical system is done manually by switching between two defined zones. The first zone covers a distance from 0.5 to 1.5 metres and is used for close-up shots or portraits. The second focus setting works from 1.5 metres to infinity, which is suitable for landscape shots. This allows the photographer to react quickly to a change in the scene by simply moving the mechanical selector on the camera body.
The built-in flash helps when shooting in the shade, indoors, or in poor lighting conditions. The system offers three modes: auto flash, forced flash on, or flash off. The red-eye reduction function helps prevent unwanted colouration of pupils in portrait shots. The flash unit has a guide number of approximately 8. The flash system draws power from two AAA alkaline batteries.
The multiple exposure function combines two different shots onto a single frame of film. The user can create overlapping images without the need for any additional software or computer editing. The number of exposures per shot is limited to two. The mechanical process blends two different scenes into one final image, expanding the creative possibilities when working with classic analogue material.
Film loading and advancing is handled by an integrated motor. After closing the back cover, the camera automatically winds the film to the first frame and advances it one frame after each press of the mechanical shutter. After the entire roll has been shot, the motor starts rewinding it back into the cassette. If necessary, the user can also manually activate forced rewinding using a dedicated button on the body.
The camera body is made of durable ABS plastic and weighs just 117 grams. Its compact physical dimensions of 62×118×35mm make it easy to carry in a pocket or small bag. It is powered by two AAA batteries, which are sufficient for approximately ten rolls of twenty-four exposure film. A handy wrist strap and a protective case are also included in the basic package.
