This album maps the collaboration between these exceptional artists. Their first major joint work was the theme song for the film Requiem for a Maiden. This was followed by the completely unique album Missariel, which heralded years of a one-of-a-kind collaboration that also included film and stage music, as well as famous musical productions.
"The power of what Gabriela Osvaldová and Ondřej Soukup created for Lucie in the following noughties is unparalleled in Czech pop of that era. Anyone who experienced a performance of their musical Joan of Arc knows what I'm talking about. And the fact that the phrase 'the new Hegerová' appeared in some reviews at the time was not far from the truth," writes publicist Josef Vlček in the album's sleeve notes. "Over seventeen years of collaboration, Soukup, Bílá, and Osvaldová painted a distinctive picture of a journey through life. Their own journey and that of their generation.
From the energetic funky beginnings of Láska je láska to the Slavic romance of Miluji tě or the melancholy and hangover of Tolik vína, tolik slov. Always with charm and the awareness that they were expressing the same joys and experiencing the same pains as their listeners." The album closes with a new piece showcasing Lucie Bílá's extraordinary vocal abilities: "Lucie's eccentric skills also gave me the opportunity for experiments that would otherwise have been impossible to realise. She is a brave woman, and I thank her for that. In the end, that's also why the final track on the record, Salto mortale, was created, in which I combined her greatest vocal and singing excesses," confesses Ondřej Soukup.
Lucie Bílá has been at the absolute pinnacle of our pop music scene for more than twenty years. Among all the awards she has received during that time, the most valuable certainly include almost two dozen Golden Czech Nightingale awards, the Female Singer of the Twenty Years award from the Music Academy, and the Thalia Award. Ondřej Soukup is one of our most successful composers of pop music, crossover, musicals, and film scores. This is evidenced by countless awards, led by the Oscar-winning Kolya and Czech Lions for An Ambiguous Report About the End of the World and Dark Blue World. Gabriela Osvaldová is one of the most original lyricists in domestic pop music. Together with Ondřej Soukup, she has also authored several musicals, including the award-winning Joan of Arc.
