Although the operatic legacy of Antonín Dvořák (1841-1904) is less balanced than other genres of his work, we can safely describe at least three of his operas - Jakobín, Čert and Káča a Rusalka - as extraordinarily vital works, popularly performed and spontaneously accepted by the audience. Especially Rusalka, written in 1900, lyrical fairy tale work for the most valuable text, Dvořák ever used (Jaroslav Kvapil), a story full of compassion for the unfortunate protagonist and the flawed human-prince, rightfully occupies the position of the most popular and, next to Smetana's The Bartered Bride, the most frequently performed Czech opera with Czech and foreign audiences.
The digital recording, conducted by Václav Neumann and starring Gabriela Beňačková in the title role, guarantees the highest artistic quality. Combined with Dvořák's inimitably incisive inventiveness, this opera set represents the materialization of one of the most precious fruits of the spirit in the entire history of Czech music.
The most magnificent Czech opera in digital quality!
