Exchange Server 2003

This publication is dedicated to the Exchange 2003 messaging platform. It introduces you to the implementation and administration of Exchange 2003, as well as the previous version of Exchange 2000 (the architecture of the platform has not been fundamentally changed), and should also serve as a mentor and troubleshooting guide. This book is especially useful for novice and intermediate network administrators who are about to deploy (or are already running) this new version of the mail system in an Active Directory environment running on Windows 2000 and Windows Server 2003 operating systems. The first chapter is devoted to an overview and architecture of the system. It describes the differences between the different versions of Exchange 2003, its dependencies on Active Directory and Internet Information Services. The introduction to the chapter is devoted to the new features of Exchange 2003, which will be especially appreciated by administrators familiar with Exchange 2000. The second chapter covers the installation of Exchange 2003, with particular emphasis on planning, preparation and post-installation steps, which are often neglected in companies, and that often leads to problems in the future. The chapter also discusses automating Exchange installations in the case of large-scale deployments of a large number of servers. The third and most extensive chapter describes the individual activities of the postal system administration. Let's mention for example. managing data stores, recipients, mailing lists, routing, etc. This chapter should become the focus and somehow the center of the book because it maps the most common activities of Exchange administrators. Exchange 2003 clients are covered in Chapter 4, which is dedicated to the various options for accessing a user's mailbox. In addition to the classical methods (MAPI, POP3, IMAP4), the author also describes access from mobile devices such as. mobile computers and phones, PDA devices (Pocket PC, Pocket PC Phone Edition, etc. ). A kind of motto of this chapter, expressing its goal and current trend, is access to the mailbox from anywhere and at any time. Backup and recovery are inherent to the activities performed on any system. This area will not be neglected here either; it is the subject of Chapter 5. In addition to the backup and recovery processes themselves, the author also tried to outline scenario preparation for potential system crash possibilities.
