How to Train Your Dragon DVD

The harsh North is inhabited by even harsher Vikings and, alongside them, dragons. They are unequivocally the harshest of all.

One person who isn't harsh in the slightest is the main hero, Hiccup. A Viking teenager, he doesn't quite fit in with the other inhabitants of his home island, Berk, because unlike them, he tends to use his head rather than his muscles (of which he has very few). This might be overlooked if Hiccup weren't the son of the village chief, Stoick the Vast. His dad loves him, but unfortunately, he's well aware of his son's "shortcomings". This is especially true as Hiccup's initiation into Viking adulthood approaches, which can only be successfully completed one way – by killing a dragon in combat.
Dragons are Berk's only, but permanent, problem. Dozens of species of flying lizards constantly attack the village, steal livestock, and burn crops and farm buildings, making it every Viking's moral duty to fight the dragons however they can. Of course, Hiccup would also love to take down a Monstrous Nightmare, a Hideous Zippleback, or a Gronckle, but Mother Nature didn't exactly equip him for the task. The helpful lessons at Dragon School with the local eccentric, Gobber the blacksmith, don't help either.
Fortunately, Hiccup has a clever mind, and where brute force is lacking, brains can help. He constructs a crossbow contraption which he uses to attack the most feared dragon of all, the practically uncatchable Night Fury. A single shot (a very successful one) changes the future of the human and dragon coexistence on the island of Berk. Because when Hiccup sets out to finish off the injured dragon and finally become a man, something inside him breaks as he looks into its bright, dragon eyes. And that break will be the beginning of a beautiful friendship. Now all that's left is to convince the other Vikings that the real enemy lies elsewhere.
