Marvin Gaye: What's Going On
LP Record Marvin Gaye was both a controversial and immensely successful figure. The son of a preacher, he started his career with a string of chart-topping tracks in the Motown tradition. Over time, however, he found himself increasingly uncomfortable, caught in a triangle of tax investigations, demanding wives, and music that meant nothing to him. Everything changed with the 1971 self-produced album What's Going On. With deep R&B songs and soul in his voice, he created what Rolling Stone magazine named the best album of 1971. The songs are profound, incredibly open for 1970s America, and thoroughly danceable.
