This volume provides an insight into Czech syntax based on contemporary Czech language source material, as provided by grammatically annotated data from Czech computer corpora. The authors of this volume participated in the construction of the Prague Dependency Treebank, drawing on a unified theoretical concept of dependency description based on the concept of valency. Seven chapters analyse and richly exemplify fundamental questions of the semantic structure of the Czech sentence (types of dependency relations, the boundary between valency and non-valency complementation, the interplay of morphology and syntax in the Czech sentence, coordinate and elliptical clauses, the nature of infinitive structures, and word order in relation to information structure) using corpus material.
