LP Record Hart's fourth album, Bang Bang Boom Boom, was released in 2012. The album was produced by Kevin Shirley, who also produced Hart's previous album, Don't Explain. Hart and Shirley recorded the album at Shirley's studio in Las Vegas. The album features Hart's regular band, comprising guitarists Jon Nichols and Waddy Wachtel, bassist Bob Glaub, drummer Kenny Aronoff, and keyboardist Jim Cox. Hart stated that the album was inspired by her divorce from her first husband, actor Scott Baio. She said, "I was in a really bad place. I was really angry and hurt. I was in a lot of pain, and I was really pissed off. I was like, 'I'm not going to be a victim. I'm going to get up and do something with this pain.'"
LP Record After bassist Will Heggie parted ways with Liz Fraser (vocals) and Robin Guthrie (guitar, bass, drums), Cocteau Twins released their second album, "Head Over Heels", in 1983. It remains the only work recorded by the duo; Simon Raymonde (bass, guitar, piano) joined for the recording of "Treasure" and stayed with the band, which formed in Grangemouth, Scotland in 1980, until they disbanded in 1998. A record shop owner and former bandmate from Drowning Craze once introduced Cocteau Twins to Ivo Watts-Russell, the owner of the independent label 4AD, which was founded in 1980. The 1984 LP "Treasure" was produced by Guthrie himself.
LP Record Henry Mancini is one of the biggest names in the soundtrack genre. His first major success was the film The Glenn Miller Story, for which he received his first Oscar nomination. In 1958, he collaborated with director Blake Edwards on the television series Peter Gunn. Over the next 30 years, they worked together on 26 films. In 1958, Random House published Breakfast at Tiffany's, a novella by Truman Capote about the adventures of a young writer who gets to know his neighbour, Holly Golightly, whose free-spirited lifestyle was extraordinary for the time. When Blake Edwards decided to turn the story into a film, he tasked Henry Mancini with creating the music.
LP Record "Dítě Štěstěny" is a 1980 album by the Czech musician Petr Spálený. This album showcases Spálený's distinctive voice and musical style, which blends elements of rock, pop, and jazz. The title track, "Dítě Štěstěny," sets the tone for the album with its engaging melody and reflective lyrics. Other notable tracks include "Obyčejný Muž," a song that captures the essence of everyday life, and "Když Ji Potkáš," a romantic number with a catchy chorus. "Peggy" and "Kolej Albertov" further demonstrate Spálený's songwriting versatility. The album also features "Prázdný kamión," a track with a driving rhythm, and "Pánská jízda," which adds a playful touch to the collection.
LP Record Ella Fitzgerald is without a doubt a legend who recorded over 200 albums during a career spanning half a century. She has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, her charitable foundation was established in 1993, she won 13 Grammy Awards, and in 2007 the U.S. Postal Service honoured her with her own postage stamp. She collaborated with all the world's jazz greats and performed in the most famous concert halls. This vinyl features 42 tracks that the "First Lady of Song" recorded both solo and with stars like Louis Armstrong.
LP Record Dry Cleaning's album "Stumpwork", released in 2022, follows the band's critically acclaimed debut, "New Long Leg". The London-based post-punk group, known for their signature blend of spoken-word vocals and sharp, angular guitar work, continues to explore themes of modern life and personal experiences through their music. The album's title, "Stumpwork", refers to a type of raised embroidery originating in the 17th century, suggesting a meticulous and textured approach to their craft.
LP Record Glory Days is the second studio album by the British girl group Little Mix. It was released on 18 November 2016 by Syco Music. The album was preceded by the release of the lead single "Shout Out to My Ex" on 16 September 2016. The album debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart, becoming the group's second consecutive number-one album. It also debuted at number one in Ireland and Scotland, and at number two in Australia and New Zealand. The album has been certified platinum in the United Kingdom and Ireland, and gold in Australia and New Zealand.
LP Record Following an exceptionally long year of personal change and almost manic creative activity, Canadian musician Devin Townsend released the follow-up to his highly acclaimed album "Empath" in 2019. Assembled from a flood of material written during the pandemic, "Lightwork" represents a new level for him, becoming one of the most accessible yet ambitious titles of his extensive career. The project, which Devin has had in mind since his teenage years (and has flirted with throughout his career), is a more melodic and direct album with a great producer to back it up. And that's where Garth Richardson comes in: a Vancouver-based producer with a long CV and a long-time friend of Devin's.
LP Record Three years after her debut "Immortal" (1996), Beth Hart released the critically acclaimed album "Screamin' For My Supper". Beth Hart produced the album herself with the help of her long-time collaborator and bassist Tal Herzberg, resulting in a mature, fully-fledged album. The track "LA Song" became a single. With her raw and fragile voice, she sings fantastic up-tempo songs and ballads. It's a more pop-oriented approach, but still with her recognisable sound. She later became one of the big names in female blues rock, recording several albums with blues giant Joe Bonamassa.
LP Record In a successful surprise move, The National are releasing their new album "Laugh Track" without much advance notice. It's a "sister album", a companion piece to "First Two Pages Of Frankenstein", which was only released in April. The songs for both albums were written at the same time. However, many of the tracks featured here were further developed and refined during live shows in recent months. The track "Weird Goodbyes", a collaboration with Bon Iver, was released as a single in August 2022 but, to the surprise of fans, was not included on "First Two Pages Of Frankenstein". On "Laugh Track", this collaboration now seamlessly joins the brilliant duets with Phoebe Bridgers and Rosanne Cash.
